COP29: A Disappointing Chapter in Climate Diplomacy?
According to Mohamad Al-Basem’s analysis, the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Baku failed to achieve the groundbreaking agreements that were hoped for. In his view, despite promises to support communities impacted by climate change and transition to clean energy, countries from the ’’Global North’’ showed significant reluctance to meet their financial commitments and reduce their dependence on fossil fuels. He highlights the ineffectiveness of the negotiations and the lack of concrete measures in addressing the climate crisis, emphasising the growing divide between wealthy nations and those from the ’’Global South.’’
