From foreign fighters to slaves, women and their control are at the heart of Daesh’s discourses, representations and strategies. Indeed, the establishment of the “caliphate”, a proto-state run by the terrorist organisation according to Sharia principles, gave new meaning to the presence of women in the field for the mujahidat, while Yazidi women were targeted to undergo an inhuman and dishonourable mass genocide.
