Are the Abraham Accords Still Shielded from the Regional Chaos?

The Abraham Accords were concluded five years ago, under the impetus of the first Trump administration (2017–2021). These agreements were presented as a beacon of hope for peace and security in the Middle East. In practice, however, they have primarily facilitated Israel’s gradual integration into the region, while offering Gulf states a diplomatic framework seen as a means to strengthen their position vis-à-vis Iran. The accords have, until very recently, withstood the test of Israel’s genocidal actions in Gaza and the ensuing regional repercussions. Yet, the annexation projects in the West Bank—supported by certain extremist factions within Netanyahu’s government—are raising questions about the long-term sustainability of these agreements. Several Emirati officials have even referred to the existence of a “red line” that must not be crossed.
