Nijdar Khalid is an economist and research fellow at the University of Duhok in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. He received his PhD in Economics from the Institute of Economics at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen–Nuremberg (FAU), Germany. His research focuses on economic freedom, institutional economics, political economy, and economic development, with particular emphasis on institutional structures in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
Dr. Khalid is the author of the chapter “The State of the Institutions of Economic Freedom in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq” in the Economic Freedom of the World 2021 Annual Report published by the Fraser Institute. He is affiliated with the Ibn Khaldun Initiative for Free Thought, supported by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom. His academic work examines the interaction between governance structures, economic freedom, the rule of law, and market-supporting institutions in transitional and developing economies.
