Didier Leroy is an Assyriologist, Islamologist and sociologist by training. He is a researcher at the Institut royal supérieur de défense (IRSD) and a visiting expert at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) in Belgium. He is also an associate researcher at the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM) in Canada and an expert attached to the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats (Hybrid CoE) in Finland. His numerous missions in the Arab world (Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan, etc.) have enabled him to conduct research on geopolitics and Islamism (Muslim Brotherhood, Salafist movements, Shiite militias, etc.).
