
The research methodology program was jointly developed by EISMENA, Nishtman Strategy Institute and hosted at the University of Kurdistan-Hewlêr. The program covered the research methodologies in sociology, history, foreign policy, borders, and political science, taught by Michel Wieviorka, Jean Marcou, Jérôme Chapuisat, Haouès Seniguer, and Daniel Meier.
This event took place on April 20th until May 4th, in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdish Region.
Program Overview
NSI and EISMENA are organizing a two-week training program for young professionals and future academics who wish to develop their research skills.
This initiative encourages dialogue between students and experienced researchers through case studies and interactive workshops.
The training will take place from April 20 to May 4, 2025, at UKH in Erbil.
Sessions will be held from Sunday to Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., structured around morning lectures and interactive workshops in the afternoon.
Expertise and Methodologies Taught
Five experts will lead these sessions in English:
Prof. Michel Wieviorka, April 20–21: Sociology, including the theory of the sociology of action and the method of sociological intervention.
Jean Marcou, April 22–23: Research methodology related to foreign policy, exploring analytical tools for understanding international political dynamics.
Jérôme Chapuisat, April 24–27: Methodology of historical studies, combining the analysis of primary and secondary sources, critical evaluation, and interpretation.
Dr. Daniel Meier, April 29–30: Geopolitics of borders in the Middle East, using qualitative and quantitative approaches drawn from political geography, international relations, and historical sociology.
Haoues Seniguer, May 1–4: Methodology in political science, focusing on the study and application of methods used to analyze political phenomena, theories, and institutions.
